Tórshavn Becomes the Centre of Nordic Performing Arts for Three Days

With a new performing arts festival, the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands is bringing together Nordic artists and others from the performing arts sector, giving the Faroe Islands an important position in the Nordic performing arts scene. VERK – Nordic Stage Days takes place from 2–4 October.

A Wide-Ranging Programme
Audiences can look forward to a variety of performances from Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Norway/Sápmi, and Sweden when VERK – Nordic Stage Days kicks off. The programme features theatre, dance, and other forms of performance art. Themes range from historical events and site-specific storytelling to taboo subjects such as menopause, the search for identity, and the need to belong. While the festival takes place mainly in the Nordic House, there will also be performances at Tjóðpallurin, OY, and Glasir.

A New Nordic Meeting Place
The aim of the festival is both to strengthen Faroese performing arts in a Nordic context and to give the public the opportunity to experience Nordic performing arts in the Faroe Islands.

“With this festival, the Faroe Islands will become a key player in the Nordic performing arts field,” says Gunn Hernes, Director of the Nordic House.

“VERK – Nordic Stage Days will be a new Nordic meeting place, where performing arts professionals can build networks and form new collaborations. At the same time, the audience will have the chance to enjoy powerful artistic experiences in the Faroe Islands. We are very excited!”

The full programme for VERK – Nordic Stage Days can be found here. In addition to performances, the festival offers a special programme for professionals in the performing arts sector, including talks, networking sessions, and knowledge sharing across the Nordic region.
