WATER

Nordic Salon

Inger Smærup Sørensen

Water is both what unites and what separates us in the Nordic region, and water has given rise to a range of symbolic and formal possibilities throughout the history of art. From illustrative to abstract forms. From maritime paintings to contemporary conceptual works.

The Nordic House in the Faroe Islands has invited all Nordic and Baltic visual artists to submit works for its 2018 Summer Exhibition WATER – Nordic Salon, which is open from 16 June until 17 August 2018.

All media and forms of expression within the visual arts were welcomed, but all works did in some way have to relate to the theme “water”.

The exhibition will offer a take on how art relates to this essential, life-giving, but also devastating, chemical substance today. The political and the poetic. The tangible and the indefinite. The mythological, the practical and the aesthetic. All approaches to the theme were endorsed.

The Nordic House is thrilled about the large amount of interest the project has received from artists across the Nordic and Baltic countries, and is very proud to present works by the following artists:

Andris Vītoliņš ( LV), Anja Carr (N), Catrin Andersson (S), Charlotte Binau (DK), Dorthe Lund (DK), Guðrún Öyahals (IS), Hansina Iversen (FO), Jens Dam Ziska (FO), Kristin Tårnes (N), Lasse Lecklin (FI), Line Solberg Dolmen (N), Nina Maria Kleivan (DK), Rannvá Holm Mortensen (FO), Søssa Jørgensen (N), Steinunn Gunnlaugsdóttir (IS), Terje Roalkvam (N), Tove Kommedal (N), Vappu Johansson (FI), Victoria Cleverby (S) and Voldemārs Johansons (LV).
