VISIT A FAROESE ISLAND OF CUTTING EDGE CULTURE IN BERLIN FROM 8-10 SEPTEMBER 2010. Atlantic Soundscapes in Berlin presentation.pdf(7,03 MB)

This Atlantic Soundscapes event offers Berlin the chance to experience the Faroe Islands with all the senses. From 8-10 September culture loving Berliners will thus get the unique chance to visit a Faroese island of cutting-edge culture in the heart of the German capital. The Atlantic Sound...scapes event hereby offers its visitors the chance to see original Faroese pop bands perform, enjoy the new wave of Faroese design, experience breath- taking Faroese visual art, indulge in Faroese literature and taste modern Faroese cuisine snacks.

The Faroe Island’s hauntingly beautiful nature, bright Scandinavian summers, dark Nordic winters and North Atlantic storms have for centuries acted as powerful muses for Faroese artists. Nonetheless this is a well-kept secret in Germany. By creating a Faroese island in Berlin, a few steps away from Tempelhof airport and Bergmannstraße, titled Atlantic Soundscapes, the Faroe Islands and Popkomm thus offer Berliners a unique chance to discover Faroese gems such as the bands the Ghost and Budam, fashion designer Barbara Í Gongini, film artist Heiðrik á Heygum and many more.

He currently serves as Principal Conductor and Artistic Director for Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra, the contemporary music ensemble NNEO and Pitea Chamber Opera.

He was Principal Conductor until 2006 at the Musica Vitae with which he has toured Spain and the United States. He has held position as the First Guest Conductor with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra 2002-2007, and up until 2004, he held a similar position with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, where he collaborated on many recordings.

Petter Sundkvist has conducted close to 100 debut performances of contemporary music and more than 20 opera productions in a variety of venues. Naxos has awarded him a leading position in a comprehensive recording series devoted to Swedish music. A regular guest with all the major Swedish orchestras, he has also appeared with major symphony orchestras throughout Scandinavia, Germany, Russia, Iceland, Italy, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Great Britain. Through his internationally acclaimed recordings of music by Joseph Martin Kraus, Petter Sundkvist has established himself as an expert in the performance of eighteenth and early nineteenth century music.

Norrbotten NEO bio:

Tradition and experimentation Norrbotten NEO is Swedenʼs newest voice on the contemporary music scene. Formed in January 2007, the ensemble is funded by the national, regional and municipal governments, and has a mission to perform throughout the country, as well as internationally. NEO has a core ensemble of seven musicians: flute, clarinet, percussion, piano, violin, viola and cello. NEO regularly incorporates new commissions into its repertoire and stages at least ine chamber opera production annually under the name Piteå Chamber Opera.

NEO has its home in Piteå, at the newly built Acusticum complex located in Swedenʼs northernmost province. Acusticum offers an unique working environment complete with a concert hall, a “black box” theatre as well as state of the art broadcasting- and recording studios. Norrbotten NEOʼs ensemble and opera activities are funded by the Swedish Arts Council, Norrbotten County Council, and Luleå and Piteå communities.
